Mentorship Matters
When’s the last time you paused to reflect on how far you’ve come along your life’s journey or career path? Which mentors walked alongside you during the seasons of your journey? It’s often so easy to get wrapped up in the daily grind of responsibilities or have our minds focused ahead on the goals that we haven’t yet achieved. Have you paused recently to acknowledge each season’s valleys and triumphs through a lens of gratitude?
Don’t get me wrong. It’s essential to have goals and think strategically about our futures. However, I urge you to take stock of the milestones you’ve achieved thus far. Celebrate those achievements, and then intentionally be aware and open to those who could benefit from your mentorship. Don’t forget to occasionally look behind you to offer a steady hand of encouragement and wisdom to those who seek guidance.
For those timid souls who don’t think they’re ready, I challenge you. Each stumbling block in life allows us—even the introverts—to overcome, learn, and mentor another. We experience difficulties in life, so we can connect with and encourage others who share similar paths. Cherish the experience and wisdom you’ve gained, and don’t wait until retirement to invest in the future of others. Be aware and intentional today about the difference you can cultivate in another’s life and career.
